Cubitt – Landscape Design and Build
Cremorne, Melbourne

Project Brief

The Cubitt project in Cremorne involved creating a private and secure front and rear courtyard for a couple who love to entertain friends and family regularly. The goal was to provide a comprehensive landscape design and build solution that respects the heritage overlay of the area while delivering modern amenities and aesthetic appeal.

Scope of Work

Design and Build:
This landscape design and build project required a comprehensive approach, from initial design to final construction. Due to a significant heritage overlay, a planning permit was submitted and approved by the City of Yarra Council. The permit included a statement letter justifying our choice of fence height and materials, which were outside the usual parameters set by the council.

Design Package:

• Consultation
• Concept Development
• Master Plan
• Demolition Plan
• Planting Plan
• Lighting Plan

On-Site Scope of Works

Rear Courtyard:

• Boundary Fences: Replaced all neighboring boundary fences to enhance privacy.
• Bin Bay Privacy Screening: Installed for added discretion and aesthetics.
• Paving: Laid tumbled limestone paving for a sophisticated look.
• Drainage: Installed a hidden strip drain to manage water runoff.
• Planter Box: Repurposed existing brick paving into a raised planter box, adding a touch of sustainability.
• Irrigation and Lighting: Implemented a fully autonomous irrigation and lighting system for ease of maintenance and ambiance.

Front Courtyard:

• Boundary Fences: Replaced all neighboring boundary fences for a uniform appearance.
• Pergola: Constructed a new roofed pergola to provide shade and shelter.
• Paving: Installed tumbled limestone paving with a feature step at the entry for a welcoming feel.
• BBQ and Cabinetry: Built an in situ concrete BBQ with integrated cabinetry and fridge for outdoor cooking and entertaining.
• Drainage: Installed efficient drainage solutions.
• Planting: Planted an established 70-year-old olive tree to add character and shade, along with other complementary plantings.

• Custom Features: Designed and installed a custom steel letterbox to match the front fence.

Front Fence Design: The front fence is a standout feature of this landscape design and build project in Cremorne, made of welded aluminum slats. This innovative design offers varying levels of transparency:

• 100% Transparency: When viewed at a 45-degree angle.
• 50% Transparency: When viewed front on.
• 0% Transparency: When viewed at the opposite 45-degree angle.
